Researchers from IMDEA Energy presented their research in The Water-Energy Nexus Conference held in Salerno, Italy

The second Edition of WaterEnergyNEXUS Conference, that was held in Salerno (Italy) from November 14 to 17 of this year, was organized by The Sanitary Environmental Engineering Division (SEED) of the University of Salerno (Italy) in cooperation with Advanced Institute of Water Industry at Kyungpook National University (Korea) and with The Energy and Resources Institute, TERI (India).

This edition was organized also with the support of the UNESCO World Water Association Programme (WWAP) and of the International Water Association (IWA) and under the patronage of several scientific societies, associations and organizations. An additional aim of the WaterEnergyNEXUS conference is to contribute to the overall goal of enhancing cooperation, integration and sustainable development in the Euro-Mediterranean region on critical topics of Water and Energy.

The researchers from IMDEA Energy, Marc A. Anderson and Julio J. Lado from the Electrochemical Processes Unit, presented a Keynote and an Oral presentation, respectively. Marc A. Anderson presented a keynote titled “Peak Oil, Peak Water, and Food: A Capacitive Means Helping to Tame this Nexus” and participated also as a chair of two sessions devoted to advanced technologies for the environmental sustainability of the Water-Energy sector and Energy saving technologies and future clean energy solutions under water constraints. Moreover, Julio J. Lado presented his work “Singular Applications of Capacitive Deionization: Reduction of the Brine Volume from Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis Plants”. His work is part of the research developed along with the companies GS Inima Environment, S.A. and Proingesa in the framework of the DC-SOIAS project funded by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (MINECO) through the National Program for Research Aimed at the Challenges of Society Program (RTC-2015-3969-5).
