Development of a process at pilot plant scale for the production of advanced biofuels by hydrodeoxygenation of second generation vegetable oils and pyrolysis bio-oils

Research project with reference: IPT-2012-0219-120000, coordinated by the company Abengoa Research, corresponding to the call 2012, for the Sub-program INNPACTO within the Instrumental line of Articulation and Internationalization System, under the National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Innovation 2008-2011.

The main objective of this project is to develop and demonstrate the feasibility of a new type of process, using raw materials derived from non-food biomass for the production of biofuels with properties similar to petroleum-based liquid fuels. For this it is necessary to carry out the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of raw materials considered in the project (camelina oils and lignocellulosic biomass type). Thus, mixtures of hydrocarbons would be obtained, such gasoline, kerosene and diesel, which do not have any limitation as to joining combustion engines nor require any modification thereof.
