PSEH2RENOV. Sub-Project: HyTower: Thermochemical cycles

The Renewable Hydrogen PSE (PSE H2RENOV), with number PSE-120000-2009-3, and coordinated by Centro Nacional de Experimentación en Tecnologías del Hidrógeno y las Pilas de Combustible (CNETHPC), is a project approved and funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation in the 2009 Call, within Singular and Strategic Projects of the National Plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation 2008-2011, co-funded by FEDER funds.

IMDEA Energía participates in the subproject HyTower: Thermochemical cycles, sub-project with reference PSS-120000-2009-14, coordinated by Hynergreen Technologies, S.A.

If we consider hydrogen as a future fuel, clean, sustainable, and renewable, the search for its production from solar thermal energy takes a big way. However, the production of "solar hydrogen" presents difficulties, problems and barriers associated with high temperatures, special materials, to the search for catalysts, the study of thermochemical cycles, the utilization of solar resources, or the complexity of separating hydrogen and oxygen in a direct dissociation of water molecule.
During this subproject will deepen in the production of hydrogen by thermochemical cycles in combination with solar thermal high temperature reactor designs developed for different cycles and building and testing a demonstrator.
The purpose of the subproject is the production of hydrogen by thermochemical cycles by integrating solar thermal high temperature.
