WWWAL-GAS: Algal biogas from wastewater bioremediation; seeking for insights on population dynamics and cell wall characteristics

Research project corresponding to the call 2013 and reference: ENE2013-45416-R, within the State Program of Research, Development and Innovation Oriented Challenges of the Society under the National Plan for Scientific Research and Technological Innovation 2013-2016 (Research Challenges 2013).

The proposed objectives in WWAL-GAS include: i) to evaluate the efficiency and mechanisms of wastewater nutrients removal, ii) follow up of population dynamics during the different culture conditions applied in the microalgae cultivation, iii) to develop specific pretreatments for microalgae cell wall disruption in accordance to their cell wall biochemical characteristics for methane production optimization, iv) identification of the biomethanization process inhibitors or potential inhibitions that may occurr in continously fed anaerobic reactors.
