The I Iberoamerican Congress of Solar Energy took place in Madrid in 1987, together with the III Iberian Congress, and originated from the enthusiastic response of latin-american registered participants to the first Spanish-Portuguese editions. At present CIES is the solar conference with the higher number of scientific contributions in Spanish and Portuguese. The V edition of the Congress was celebrated in Sao Paulo, Brazil. During the last edition in 2012 in the city of Vigo, Spain, it was unanimously approved the candidature of Querétaro as the venue of the 2014 Congress. It is foreseen that the XVI Iberian Congress and the XII Iberoamerican Congress of Solar Energy will take place in Spain in 2016, in the city of Palma de Mallorca. CIES2016 will be organized jointly with the European Eurosun2016, a conference of ISES Europe.
IMDEA Energy will be present in the scientific sessions of the Congress with three oral communications on the design of a solar thermal power plant in Brazil; the analysis of volumetric absorbers for solar receivers and the development of a test bed for solar thermochemistry.
