The 2nd access campaign of SFERA-III is launched!

The H2020 SFERA-III project, in which IMDEA Energy is partner, offers free access for researchers to 47 top installations in the field of Concentrated Solar Power across Europe. The 2nd campaign for transnational access is open until January 31, 2020!

SFERA-III (Solar Facilities for the European Research Area) is a H2020 project funded under the Infrastructures Programme. With a total EC grant of 9,1 M€ over 4 years (from January 2019 to December 2022), the project gathers 15 partners from 8 European Union countries and Turkey.

SFERA-III launches every year a call for access proposals. The 2nd transnational access campaign opened on November 12, 2019 and offers free access to 13 state-of-art research infrastructures and 47 solar energy installations in 8 countries: Cyprus (Cyprus Institute); France (CNRS-PROMES and CEA); Germany (DLR and Fraunhofer); Italy (ENEA); Portugal (LNEG and University of Evora); Spain (CIEMAT-PSA, IMDEA Energy and UAL-CIESOL); Switzerland (ETH Zurich) and Turkey (METU). The campaign offers access to a wide spectrum of experiments with more than 100 services in Concentrated Solar Power.

The selected projects will benefit from 1 to 4 weeks of free access to the chosen facilities for a team of up to 2 persons from June 2020 to December 2020. Moreover, travel, accommodation and subsistence costs are reimbursed by the project’s budget. Check the call conditions and apply HERE.

IMDEA Energy engages in SFERA III its CST research infrastructure, composed of four singular installations, to provide support to the users for the design, simulation, optimization, testing and control of concentrating solar thermal technologies as well as other complex systems related to thermal processes:

  • The Computational Design Lab for High Temperature Processes (HTPU-CDL),
  • The High Temperature Processes Laboratory (HTPU-LAB),
  • The 42kWe High Flux Solar Simulator (KIRAN42),
  • The Very High Concentration Solar Tower (VHCST) – Available from September 2020.

Services currently offered by IMDEA Energy infrastructure are the following:

  • Services on characterization of reflectors and concentrators,
  • Experimental services on absorbers,
  • Services on heat transfer fluids,
  • Services on thermal energy storage,
  • Services on solar chemistry, and
  • Services on material testing and qualification.

Contact the Access Manager Dr. José González (jose.gonzalez@imdea.org) for the definition of the technical details and ambition of your access proposal to the IMDEA Energy CST research infrastructure.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 823802.
