Dr. Patricia Horcajada (>130 publications, 51 scientific projects, 9 patents, h=55, ∼16000 citations), has been awarded with the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) Award for Young Group Leader Researchers 2020.
With an unconventional and multidisciplinary scientific background (Pharmacy BCs, 2001 and Material Science Ph.D, 2005, University Complutense of Madrid-Spain), she joined the French Scientific Research Council (CNRS, France) as civil servant researcher in 2007 of initiating a totally new field, the biomedical application of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs). Since 2016, within the of a “Ramón y Cajal” contract, she is the head of the Unit of Advanced Porous Materials at IMDEA Energy Institute.
The Advanced Porous Materials Unit (9 members, headed by Dr. Patricia Horcajada, 1 lecturer, 3 postdoctoral researchers, 4 PhD students, 1 technician; including 4 woman and 6 men), is a highly transversal group focused in the domain of multifunctional porous solids, from their synthesis design and shaping to their applications in diverse industrial and societal strategic fields:
- Semiconductors as absorbers in photovoltaics;
- Proton conducting materials for fuel cells;
- Photo/electroactive materials for energy storage and production and
- Selective adsorbents and tandem separation/catalysis processes for environmental and biomedical applications.
Thanks to a large frame of National and International collaborations, the Unit has been/is involved in prestigious research projects (Becas Leonardo BBVA, Ramón Areces, Retos Investigación, H2020-MSCA-ITN, M-Era.Net, etc).
