The move to a sustainable transport system requires the implementation of alternative fuels and vehicles. In this regard, fuels such as hydrogen and vehicles such as fuel cell electric ones are expected to play –along with other options– a key role. In a recent work by researchers from the Systems Analysis Unit of IMDEA Energy in collaboration with researchers from the University of Cassino (*), the influence of the hydrogen feedstock on the environmental performance of a fuel cell electric passenger vehicle was explored. Overall, it was concluded that the choice of hydrogen feedstock is a key environmental issue, and the use of renewable hydrogen is essential when pursuing desirable performance indicators, such as low carbon and energy footprints.
